Moisture shrink
Weight the lot loses when dried to the standard. No deduction if the grain is already at or below the dry figure.
How it is worked out
Moisture loss = weight × (wet − dry) ÷ (100 − dry). Example: 1,000 kg of maize at 18% dried to 13.5% loses 52.02 kg (5.2%), leaving 947.98 kg.
FM deduction
Foreign matter is deducted only above the EAS threshold for the grade, not to zero.
Season reconciliation
All figures in tonnes. Net receipts is the figure after water, screenings and bag tare have come off, not the weighbridge gross.
Two methods, checked against each other
Water moves. Dry matter does not, unless something ate it or it rotted. Run both. When they agree your moisture record is internally consistent; when they disagree you have found a data error before accusing anyone.

How it is worked out
Closing book stock = opening + net receipts − dispatches − disposals. Variance = closing book stock − physical count. Moisture movement = mass held × (MC in − MC out) ÷ (100 − MC out). Residual unexplained variance = variance − moisture movement. The dry matter route converts both ends to dry matter and expresses the difference back as grain at the dispatch moisture.

The tonnage your instruments cannot see. Take the worst deviation you have actually observed, not the specification on the plate.

What the number means
Set your investigation threshold above the noise floor. Below it you are investigating your own instruments. It also sizes your blind spot: a facility with a 36 tonne noise floor cannot detect a 30 tonne theft across a season, whatever its security arrangements, which is why calibration is a security control. The two contributions are independent errors, so they combine in quadrature rather than by adding.

What this is. A calculation aid for grain intake, using figures from EAS 2:2017 (maize) and EAS 51:2017 (wheat). Where this app and the published standard differ, the published standard prevails.
Your calculations stay private. No account or sign-up is required. If you allow analytics, we record that SureGrain was opened, but we never collect weights, prices, grades, results or anything else you enter. The day log is stored on this phone only and you can clear it any time.
Your responsibility. Figures are aids. Grading, weighing and payment decisions remain the operator's responsibility, and Kevman & Troyt accepts no liability for trading losses.
